Use of negative space is a core aspect of Shinkawa's work, especially his earlier style (MGS 1, MGS 2, that era)

I think most artists trying to emulate his work give themselves away particularly in their lack of using negative space and merely "hinting" at details (or in Shinkawa's case, entire body parts)
